History

In the beginning was Altera

ALSE has a long and strong history of three decades successfully using and supporting the Altera FPGA families and tools.

And was an Altera Platinum Design partner and Training Center.

Altera Design Partner

Not surprisingly, we have developed over nearly 30 years a considerable know-how through hundreds of projects, many IPs, a complete Training courses portfolio, as well as many boards (which you can find in the “Boards” section).

Our Stratix V HPAPB Acquisition and Processing board was a success, and they are the core of very big Radio Astronomy instrument, listening to the universe 24/7 since 2016.

The production of our Cyclone V AVDB/Clovis board has now stopped but we have occasional requests from various parts of the world of engineers who find one and need information. The Data Sheet and User’s Manual are available in AVDB’s description (link above).

Then came Intel

In Dec 2015, Intel completed the acquisition of Altera.

… and ALSE became an Intel-FPGA Design Partner.

Intel FPGA Design Center

Naturally, ALSE became also an Intel-FPGA Technical Training Center with Certified Instructors.

After Altera became Intel PSG, the latest FPGA generation : Agilex 7 families were released, culminating as a concentrate of the most advanced technologies available.

It came with no surprise that designing Agilex 7 boards and taking full advantage of the FPGA capabilities represents unprecedented challenges. ALSE has been involved in several extreme Agilex 7 projects (with 400G connectivity through F-tile, R-tile PCIe Gen5, and SOC). Nothing is trivial in this kind of context. Most ALSE IPs have been ported to Agilex 7 (various tiles).

And today, it’s Altera again

In March 2024, Intel announced the official launch of Altera, its new standalone FPGA company !

In 2025, Altera is no longer an Intel company.

Altera Partner

ALSE is now an Altera Solution Acceleration Partner.

Three new FPGA families came out : the high-end Agilex 9 (with embedded RF ADC/DAC capabilities), the mid-range Agilex 5 and the low range Agilex 3. See our article showing our first experiences with Agilex 5.
